The Samsung Galaxy unpacked event was live-streamed on Youtube earlier this morning, and after many leaks, and speculations, Samsung launched the Z Flip 4, Z fold 4, Galaxy Buds 2 Pro, and the Galaxy watch 5.
In this article i’ll be summarizing the event by highlighting the two folding devices, it’s specifications, and it’s new features. You can also watch the event below this article if you feel that you still need to do so’
Galaxy Z Fold 4
The Z Fold 4 is a smaller device when compared to the Z fold 3, but Samsung made up for that by making the bezels much thinner, giving it a wider display. The cover display is a 6.2-inches AMOLED display with a resolution of 904 x 2316 pixels, while the inner display is a bigger 7.6-inches , 120Hz screen with a resolution of 1812 x 2176 pixels’
Looking into the build quality, the frame of the Galaxy Fold 4 is made of Amor Aluminium, and both front and back are covered in Gorilla Glass Victus+. It has an IPX8 rating, so you can decide to drop this device into a pool of water and it will work perfectly fine.
Samsung has certified that both the Z Fold 4 and Z Flip 4 can flip open and close up to 200,000 times. Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 sits at the helm of this device backed up by 12GB of RAM and 256GB or 512GB storage options ( plus a 1TB option which is available in selected regions) . It runs on Android 12L and Samsung’s One UI 4.1.1.
The triple camera hardware on the Z Fold 4 is much better than the Z fold 3 ( which had triple 12 MP cameras) and it includes; a 50 MP main camera, which has a larger sensor and comes with improved OIS and EIS. Next up is the 10 MP telephoto camera ,bringing up to 3x optical zoom, and 30x digital zoom. The 12 MP ultrawide camera still works as normal.
The cover display selfie camera is a 10 MP one, while the one on the large display, in bid to perfect its under display tech, is a 4 MP one. The battery capacity stays the same as the older generation, which is 4,400 mAh, but has an increased charging speed which is now 25W, and 15W wireless charging.
The Z Fold 4 comes in Greygreen, Phantom Black, and Biege colors, and its priced at $1800 for the 12GB/256GB option, $1,920 for the 12GB/512GB option (and $2,160 for the 12GB/1TB option)
Z Flip 4
The Galaxy Z Flip 4 is the best Clam-shell folding Phone to enter the market. Considering that Samsung started this wave, it only best that they should be at the forefront.
The device measures 84.9 x 71.9 x 15.9-17.1 in millimeters when folded, but 165.2 x 71.9 x 6.9 when opened up. the phone has an Amor Aluminium frame, and is protected front and back by Gorilla Glass Victus+.
The display is a 6.7-inches AMOLED display which has a FHD+resolution, and adaptive 120Hz refresh rate. It also houses a 10 MP camera in a hole-punch. The back of the device also has a 1.9-inches AMOLED display which has a 260×512 pixels resolution though it’s now has more functions (more of this in the review).
The Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip powers the Z Fold 4, aided by 8GB RAM and 128/256/512GB of storage space. Sofware is run by Android 12, and One UI 4.1.
The double camera setup consist of two 12 MP cameras, one for main shots, and one for ultra-wide pics. The battery capacity is 3,700 mAh, which is an improvement over the Fold 3’s 3,300mAh and it charges at a speed of 25W.
It comes in four colors which are Gaphite, Bora Purple, Pink Gold, and Blue. It is currently on pre-order and it’s priced at $999 (starting).
