There’s a new upgrade to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 in town just like the leaks had, and i’m talking about the Plus model (Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1) which was released yesterday, alongside the Newly introduced Snapdragon 7 Gen 1.
Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1
According to Qualcomm, the new Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 (code name is SM8475) will fix the heat issues, and power consumption problems which the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 had.
The chipset will feature 10% higher CPU performance and a 30% improvement in power efficiency for the CPU. The peak Cortex-X2 core will be able to get to 3.2GHz (the old SD 8 gen 1 topped at 3.0Hz).
The other cores got upgrades too which are: Prime core at 3.2GHz, Gold cores at 2.75Ghz, Silver cores at 2.0GHz. The chipset still supports 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM (3,200MHz), along with UFS 3.1 storage. The display driver can still do QHD+ at up to 144Hz or 4K at 60Hz, complete with 10-bit rendering (Rec. 2020) and HDR10+ support.
“The 4th Gen Snapdragon X65 5G Modem-RF System is the world’s first 3GPP Release 16 5G solution. Experience blazing fast 5G connections up to 10 Gbps, with support for more networks, frequencies, and bandwidths globally”
Qualcomm has said that the first Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 devices will be available from July and a list of supported companies were published these companies include:
Asus ROG, Black Shark, HONOR, iQOO, Lenovo, Motorola, Nubia, OnePlus, Oppo, OSOM, realme, Red Magic, Redmi, vivo, Xiaomi, and ZTE.
Snapdragon 7 Gen 1
Qualcomm also released a new mid-range chipset dubbed the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1.This is a new 4nm Soc which features some of Qualcomm’s new implementation.
This features a Kryo CPU which clocks at up to 2.4Ghz, can take up to 16GB LP-DDR5 RAM, and has the Adreno 662 as it’s GPU. Qualcomm has introduced a dedicated AI Engine to this chip. Say good bye to 108MP and welcome 200MP image capture and Android Ready SE for e-money solutions
Qualcomm says the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 handles graphics 20% faster, and AI tasks 30% better than its predecessor, the Snapdragon 778G. Adreno Frame Motion Engine is claimed to double the frame rates in games while using as much power as the SD 778G.
The Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 gets the Snapdragon X62 5G modem which is capable of 4.4 Gbps download speeds with dual standby 5G connectivity on both (SA) and non-standalone (NSA) modes. WiFi 6E is present in this SoC , as well as Bluetooth 5.3 with Snapdragon Sound and aptX support.
Qualcomm Spectra triple ISP comes with support for up to 200MP photo capture and 4K HDR video recording. Another new implementation comes in the Android SE and Trusted Management Engine which promises optimal security for digital keys and wallets.
Oppo Reno 8 will be the first phone to harbor this chip, and it is coming by may 23.
